Instagram allows advertisers to seamlessly create and promote posts with Product Tags via the Instagram Marketing API for feed photos, carousel, and existing feed videos.
On June 17th, 2024, we launched the ability to create automated tagging on Ads with Product Tags via the Marketing API. This feature is already currently available on Ads Manager, and automatically detects items in an advertisers’ catalog within a single image or video or carousel and applies the relevant product tags to their ads.
For context, the ads with product tags show people shoppable catalog products, including details such as product name and product price, featured in your ad creative. Depending on the ad placement, the product tag may appear as a tooltip that reveals the product’s name upon a tap in an image ad, a sticker in a Stories ad, or miniature product image tiles underneath your ad creative. When people click on the product tag, they’ll be directed to its product detail page where they can learn more about the product and make a purchase.

This new process alleviates unwanted friction for third party platform users and allows advertisers to more easily utilize Ads with Product Tags in new and existing media posts.
