Introducing new features and expanded user types to the Instagram Content Publishing API

June 12, 2023ByJas Shou

Today (June 12, 2023) we are introducing several updates to the Content Publishing API for Instagram.

Beginning today, Instagram Creator accounts can now access the Instagram Content Publishing API to publish content via third-party platforms. API developers will now be able to offer services via the Content Publishing API to Instagram Creator accounts, in addition to Instagram Business accounts.

All developers that have the appropriate permissions can use the Instagram Content Publishing API and invite their Creator account-type users to start publishing content via the API.

Second, we have added two new Reels features to the Content Publishing API, including user tagging and ''Original Audio'' rename. These features were some of the most highly requested features by the partners who made integrations with the API for Reels, and we are excited to add them to the growing list of Instagram platform features.

The user tagging feature will enable developers to allow users to tag one or more users during the Reels publishing process via the IG Content Publishing API. This feature works the same way as in Instagram’s first-party interfaces. Tagged users will see the Reel published in their tagged tab on their profile and receive a notification.

The “Original Audio” rename feature will enable developers to allow users to change the default “Original Audio” name for any original audio they own when creating a Reel via the Instagram Reels API.

Lastly, as we continue to invest in Reels and our Content Publishing API, we have increased the limit of daily media posts per account from 25 to 50 posts across all media types (including Reels, Stories and Feed posts).

There is no breaking change for the existing integrations.
