Data Use Checkup Tutorial

You, or another app Administrator, will receive a developer notification in your email and Alerts Inbox 60 days before DUC is due, and reminders will be sent indicating that DUC is required 60 days, 30 days, 10 days, and 3 days before your DUC deadline.

Note: Deadlines are unique to each app and will be displayed in your developer notification and the Apps Dashboard.

You or any Facebook user with an Administrator role on your app can start the DUC process in several ways - by loading the app in the App Dashboard, going to the Alerts > Inbox panel and clicking the link in the notification pertaining to DUC or by navigating to the the Required Actions section of the Dashboard.

Ensure app is connected to a verified business

Ensure that your app is connected to a verified Meta Business Account. If you don’t have one, follow this process to create a new Business Account and verify it. Only business administrators can complete this step. After you submit business verification, you can continue to the next step.

Answer data handling questions

To maintain access to personal data of users, please confirm that personal data received from Meta will be processed and transferred securely by answering our data handling questions. We recommend you consult with legal, policy, and data handling experts within your organization for guidance on how to answer these questions.

Certify data use

Examine the allowed usage for each use case, permission, or feature and certify your app follows the allowed usage. To certify, click the box next to each before continuing.

Provide testing instructions

As part of DUC, you will need to provide testing instructions for your application. For detailed information on the testing details and best practices, visit the ongoing reviews best practices page.

Certify compliance with Terms and Policies and submit DUC

Certify that you are following Meta’s Platform Terms and Developer Policies. To certify and submit DUC, click Submit.

How to view your results

Once you submit your Data Use Checkup, within a few days you will receive a message in an email and the Alerts Inbox with results. If the Data Use Checkup is complete, no further action will be required. If changes to your data handling practices are required, you will be asked to update these and re-submit the data handling questions.
