Run Ads to Promote Your App Use Case

This document shows you how to create and customize a Meta app with the Run ads to promote your app use case in the App Dashboard.

This guide assumes that you have read and implemented the requirements for creating an app with Meta.

Step 1: Start the app creation process

There are a number of ways to create an app.

  • If you just came from the registration flow, click the Create First App button
  • If you are on the App Dashboard , click Create App in the upper right
  • If you are on the dashboard for an existing app and want to create a new app, select the dropdown menu in the upper left, and click the Create New App button

Step 2: Connect a business

To run ads, you are required to connect a business portfolio to your app. However, you can connect a business now or at any time during the development process.

  1. Select an option and click Next.

Step 3: Select your use case

  1. Select the Run ads to promote your app use case to promote your app on Meta technologies, like Facebook and Instagram.
  2. Click Next.

Step 4: Add app details

  1. Add an app name that will appear in the App Dashboard and be associated with your app ID.
  2. Add contact email that Meta will use to contact you about your app.
  3. Click Next.

Step 5. Review use case requirements

In this step, you will review:

  • Publishing requirements that are required for your app, if applicable
  • Meta Platform Terms and Developer Policies
  1. Click Create app.

You will be redirected to the Dashboard with the following list of action items for App customization and requirements:

  1. Run ads to promote your app
  2. Test use cases
  3. Finish customization

Step 6. Customize your use case

Click Run ads to promote your app. The dashboard will refresh to the Account and platform settings.

Step 1. Connect your business portfolio and ad accounts


Business portfolio

  1. If you haven't already added a business portfolio to your app, or would like to change thebusiness portfolio connect to your app, click + Business Portfolio to add, update, or create one.

  2. A pop-up window will appear showing a dropdown of business portfolios that you have full control and that can be connected to your app.

    • Both verified and unverified business portfolios are listed. You can add an unverified business portfolio however it must be verified before you can run ads.
    • If you don't have a Meta business portfolio or want to create a new one, click Create new account.
Ad Account

  1. Add at least one ad account ID or click Go to Business Settings to create an ad account.

    • The ad accounts you add must be connected to the selected business portfolio, and you must have full control of the business portfolio and admin access to the ad accounts.

Step 2. Add platforms and app stores

  1. Click + Platform to tell us about the platforms and app stores that host your app.
  2. For each platform you select, fill out the needed information.

Step 3. Set up App Events

  1. Click Set up App Events to configure the events you want to track.
  2. Collect the Apple Advertising Identifier (IDFA) with App Events and Log in-app events automatically (recommended) for Android and iOS are set to Yes by default.
  3. You can add your iTunes Connect code to the In-App Purchase Shared Secret if your iOS app offers auto-renewable subscription purchases.
  4. You can also log events for the Facebook SDK and set the Session Timeout Interval.
  5. Click Save changes. You should be redirected to the Quickstart.

Quickstart


  1. If you haven't already been redirected to the Quickstart, click App Events > Quickstart in the left side Run ads to promote your app menu.
  2. Select each platform (iOS, Android, Web) you will be tracking events for.
  3. Complete the list of action items for each platform to set up events.
  4. Go to the Events Manager to continue the setup and test your events. A new browser will open with the Events Manager Data Sources Settings tab for your app and platform.
  5. Click Check app eligibility to ensure any events chosen use the same integration method as App Installs. Resolve any eligibility issues to continue.
  6. Return to the App Dashboard to continue configuring your app.

Step 7. Test your use case

  1. To go to the testing section of the dashboard, you can do one of the following:

    • Click 2. Test use cases on the Dashboard under App customization and requirements
    • In the left side menu, click the tools icon for Testing
  2. Click Go to Events Manager. A new window will open with the Events Manager open to your app.

  3. Click the Test events tab to test your setup.

Step 8. Finish setup

  1. Click 3. Finish on the Dashboard under App customization and requirements
  2. If you have completed this app's setup, click Yes, I'm finished.

The dashboard will refresh to display your app’s rate limit usage, required actions, and a link to the Ads Manager.

Step 9. Create an ad campaign

With your use case set up complete, you’re ready to create your first app promotion ad campaign. In the What’s next? section, click Go to Ads Manager to create an ad campaign for your app.

Update the use case

If, at any point, you want to change your app’s use case settings, you can return to your dashboard, click Use cases in the left side menu and click Customize.
