Announcing a new consolidated assessment approach: Meta’s data access renewal

August 22, 2024ByZoë Efrus

As a part of Meta's commitment to protecting people's privacy and continuing to improve the developer experience, we are making significant changes to the way developers certify their access to Meta’s develop platform. You can expect to see these changes beginning in October 2024.

Data access renewal is the culmination of developer feedback regarding the compliance experience. Our goal is simple: to provide an assessment process that's easy to understand, predictable, and efficient.

Beginning in October 2024, we will start to roll out this new assessment in waves. Once your apps are included in the rollout, you will start to see the new assessment.

Here’s what you can expect to see with the new assessment:

  • A simpler experience: this new assessment consolidates previously separated assessments into one, making the process more straightforward for developers to review and complete.
  • Less frequent assessments: instead of needing to complete multiple annual assessments per year, you’ll now only need to complete one annual assessment per year[1].
  • Time and resource savings: with a simpler experience only once per year, you can have more time to build and grow your apps

As part of our commitment to continue improving Meta’s developer platform, we will be enhancing this assessment over the coming months. We look forward to your feedback.

1. Some developers will continue to receive individual questionnaires until they receive a new assessment. In most cases, if you previously received the Data Protection Assessment (DPA), you can expect to receive HCA 10-12 months after you received your most recent DPA. Developers may need to complete the assessment more often if they request access to additional permissions or use cases (i.e. as part of App Review).
