Introducing Instagram Graph API with Instagram login

For years, we’ve heard feedback from developers and businesses alike, that the onboarding process for Instagram API is overly complex. Businesses that operated on Instagram had been required to connect a Facebook page to their Instagram account.

What’s New?

The improved Instagram API onboarding flow will simplify key onboarding steps, remove the Facebook login requirements (and replace this with a simplified Instagram login), and drive clarity on Instagram messaging permissions. This update aims to provide a more seamless onboarding experience for Instagram professional accounts looking to use third-party partner solutions and developers getting started with the Instagram API.

We have launched the Instagram API with Instagram Business Login to General Availability on July 23, 2024. Changes include the following:

  • Reduce number of steps in the Instagram business onboarding flow - remove the need for Facebook login and connecting the Instagram account to a Facebook Page when businesses are trying to use a messaging partner

  • Optimizing the developer onboarding flow - clarify and provide guidance on what is required from developers when creating and testing the app and what’s required for app review

  • Reduce friction in the app review process - Today, developers who want access to the Instagram API need to apply for both Facebook and Instagram permissions. With the new Instagram API, developers just need to apply for Instagram related permissions

While we will continue to support the Instagram API with Facebook Login, we recommend using Instagram API with Instagram Login to take advantage of these latest updates. You can visit our developer documentation to get started.
