Introducing an important update to Instagram Sharing to Stories

By Michael Tuschman

Updated November 30, 2022: This deadline has been extended to January 30, 2023.

Instagram was designed for people to share their moments.

Instagram Platform offers tools to help your business interact with Instagram users, including Sharing to Stories. With Sharing to Stories, you can allow users of your app to share your content as Instagram stories.

Instagram is now requiring that all developers have access to a registered Facebook App with Basic settings configured in order to continue using Share to Stories. The Facebook App ID associated with the registered Facebook App is now a required field to integrate with Share to Stories. All developers who have integrated previously without sending a Facebook App ID will need to make this change by no later than November 30, 2022, to avoid disruption to their integration with our platform. After November 30, 2022, users of your app will lose access to share your content to Instagram Stories if you have not implemented this change. Instead, users will see the following error message when they share their content to Instagram: “The app you shared from doesn't currently support sharing to Stories.”

Get started on making this change today by reading the updated developer documentation below.

Sharing to Stories

Send a Facebook App ID by November 30, 2022, to allow users of your app to continue to share your content as Instagram Stories.
