Global winners for the 2020 Developer Circles Community Challenge announced

Following on from the regional winners announcement in November, we were excited to reveal our global prize recipients for this year’s Community Challenge in a livestream on our Facebook page earlier today.

We know that developers and creators in our ecosystem are always looking for the latest tips and tools to help them take their businesses, products and ideas to the next level.

That’s why we tasked participants in this year’s Challenge with uplifting their fellow innovators by creating tutorials about solutions and code that leverage Facebook products.

Given it’s been such a difficult year, we were so inspired by the resilience and resourcefulness our global community demonstrated in hosting virtual “Build Days”. These online events gave participants the opportunity to come together, form teams and share ideas.

It’s an honor to reward so many ambitious participants from around the world with more than US$133,000 USD in cash prizes, and by amplifying their work to millions of fellow innovators in our ecosystem.

Our global winners

We invited our regional winners from November to update their tutorials and resubmit them to compete for the Challenge’s top global prizes.

The judges’ feedback is in, and we’re delighted to announce the following winners:

English tutorials for beginners

• First place - $10,000 USD + Oculus headsets
  • Fruit Classifier (Sub-Saharan Africa) - built with Pytorch and Messenger

• Second place - $7,000 USD
  • ReactNative Tutor (Learn React Native On the Go) (India) - built with React Native

English tutorials for intermediate/advanced

• First place - $10,000 USD + Oculus headsets
  • It's Now Winter -- AR Pop-up Card Tutorial Series (Asia Pacific) - built with Spark AR

• Second place - $7,000 USD
  • Pytorch for Information Extraction on Image Documents Pytorch (Sub-Saharan Africa) - built with Pytorch

Honorable mentions

While not prize-winners this time, we also wanted to highlight two further tutorials that demonstrated strong potential:

• HayWord | Case Study for Making A Real Word Messenger Chatbot (Asia Pacific) - built with React, Messenger and Wit.ai
• Covid Center Bot (Asia Pacific) - built with Messenger and Wit.ai
