MAX (Open Beta)

This topic explains how to set up AppLovin's MAX as a bidding mediation partner for Audience Network.

Before You Start

  • AppLovin's MAX publishers don’t require additional approval to use bidding with Audience Network.
  • Audience Network SDK requirements: 6.2.1 or later (Android | iOS)
  • MAX SDK requirements: Visit AppLovin's website for details on SDK integration (Android | iOS)
  • Supported formats for bidding: Banner, Interstitial, Medium Rectangle, Native, Native Banner, Rewarded video.
  • No additional approval is required to sign up for an account and start bidding with MAX.

How to Set Up Bidding

Read AppLovin's guidance for now to Get Started with MAX.

AppLovin has comprehensive reporting tools to help you monitor your app's performance. Key metrics like DAU, Ad Revenue, RPI, Retention and ARPDAU will help to keep you on track as you grow your business. Stats you see in the MAX UI for Audience Network are reported in UTC and should match your Audience Network earnings when you compare on a weekly basis. Daily fluctuations are expected. You can read more about each option and how to use them in detail here.

If you’re new to Audience Network

  • Publishers that do not have an existing Facebook account can follow the detailed instructions on MAX’s Facebook Integration Guide to get started.

Best practices

In order to see the positive results from your move to bidding, keep these best practices in mind:

  • Use your current highest grossing traditional placement ID for rewarded video or interstitial to test bidding. You do not need to create new Facebook bidding-specific IDs and can simply transfer the Facebook one from tag to bidding.
  • Utilize test mode via mediation debugger or manually in the MAX UI by selecting Facebook to verify ads from Meta Audience Network are displaying as intended before your app launch. Both steps are crucial for a successful launch.
  • Native banner ads have more API options, so you can customize a look that fits your app. Overall, performance depends on how well the ad is integrated, auto-refresh rate and auction density. We recommend A/B Testing to find the optimal integration.
  • Auto-refresh is common industry practice when rendering Banner and Medium Rectangle ads. We suggest you increase the auto-refresh rate through MAX if you are seeing low fill rate or low eCPM. Note that Audience Network does not support auto-refresh.
  • Measure the performance of adding a new bidder or frequency capping by visiting the ad unit page in the MAX UI and setting up an A/B test. MAX A/B test will automatically split your traffic into 50/50 and help you see the incrementality of each change you make. Select an ad unit, and click the drop-down underneath create AB test. This allows you to compare your new configuration to your control group and see the impact of the changes. All your changes will be reflected in the default waterfall. If you would like to use a different configuration for your limited ad tracking traffic in iOS, you can use the Create New Waterfall button.
