Abstract

The Ad Targeting Dataset comprises a single table containing the ad targeting logic of all the social issue, electoral, and political ads that ran on Facebook and Instagram since August 3, 2020. The dataset covers ads in 200+ countries, including all countries in which Meta ad authorization and disclaimer tools are available. Only ads concerning social issues, elections, or politics published on Facebook or Instagram after August 3, 2020 are included in the dataset. The dataset is updated on the 1st of each month to include ad targeting data for all ads published through the 21st of the previous month.

Product limitations

The Ad Targeting Dataset allows access to ad targeting data within the Facebook Open Research and Transparency tool for election, political, and social issue ads that are run on Facebook from Meta and Instagram from Meta. The allowed usage of this functionality is to conduct research about Meta's role in society.
