Facebook Analytics for Apps FAQ

Does Analytics for Apps require Facebook Login?

No. Analytics for Apps requires that you log App Events in order to see metrics about your app. If you are using Facebook Login, you can view additional metrics about your login integration in the Integrations>Login section of Analytics for Apps.

Why are my event counts are lower than my internal event counts?

  • If you recently added the ability to log App Events through the SDK, people will need to upgrade to a version of your app that contains the App Events code. As people upgrade to the latest version of your app, your App Event numbers should match your internal numbers.
  • One way to validate the data is to only look at internal data that comes from people who have upgraded to versions of your app that send App Events.
  • You should also verify that you are not conditionally sending App Events.
  • If you are using an MMP, you can have them double-check the integration.

Why are my event counts higher than my internal counts?

  • If you are using both a mobile measurement partner and the Facebook SDK to pass back App Events, this can result in double-counting.
  • You should verify that the events are firing at the proper time in your app. For instance, if you're comparing purchase events, make sure that you're firing the purchase event when you're confident that the purchase event has occurred, as opposed to when someone clicks on the button to purchase.

My event counts match my backend but my total value or value per event does not match? Some common causes for inaccurate totals or values per event are:

  • Placing the decimal in the wrong place
  • Passing inaccurate currency data or failing to pass a currency parameter for monetary amounts
  • Passing the wrong value for a specific transaction
  • Hard coding conversion values instead of passing the actual value

Why can't I see the total value or distribution of values for my parameters showing up in Facebook Analytics for Apps?

You need to use the valueToSum parameter to log any numerical values that you would like to see aggregated as a value in Facebook Analytics for Apps. See the App Events docs to learn how to log valueToSum for your specific platform.

What do the different values in Acquisition Source mean in Facebook Analytics for Apps?

  • Facebook Ad: The event was due to a Facebook ad.
  • Facebook Organic: The event was due to someone clicking on a Facebook story that included a link to your app.
  • Unclassified: The event either occurred organically or as a result of non-Facebook paid advertising.
  • Instagram Ad: A mobile app ad on Instagram published on or after November 19, 2015, 12:00 AM Pacific Time. Instagram ads published before the aforementioned date will be classified as Facebook Ad.

Troubleshooting

Why am I seeing this message: "Your app’s using an older version of the Android SDK and may not count all installs. Update your app to use the latest Android SDK."?

If you are using version 3.19.0 or earlier of the Facebook Android SDK, there is an issue with counting all installs. We recommend upgrading to the latest version of the Facebook Android SDK. This guide walks through updating to the latest version of the Android SDK.

This issue doesn't effect measurement of Facebook ad campaigns but will affect install measurement in Analytics for Apps.

Direct Support

Apps which report seven or more types of App Events are eligible for Direct Support for their Facebook Analytics integration. This tool allows you to communicate directly with members of the Developer Support team via Support Cases.

How do I set up my app for Direct Support?

If your app already has access for Direct Support for other Facebook products, you may already have the option to create Questions for the Facebook Analytics team. If so, you’ll see this option in the Direct Support tool, which can be accessed from the Tools & Support section of our developer site.

If not, you’ll need to associate your Facebook app with your company’s Business Manager, which will activate access to Direct Support once your app’s App Events usage has been verified.

You can find instructions for how to Create a new Business or Add your app to your Business in the Business Manager documentation
