Threads is our newest, fast-growing social app for public conversation, where people are connecting over ideas — and your business can join the conversation. The Threads community now has over 350 million monthly active users, and we’re also seeing that three out of four profiles on Threads follow at least one business. Learn more about how Threads works.
On May 19, 2025, we’re expanding Marketing API support to include ads in Threads. Ads in Threads can help you extend your existing ad campaigns to the growing community on Threads.
Today, advertisers must have a Threads profile in order to run ads on Threads. Before you begin, your app user must grant your app permission to read an Instagram-connected Threads account profile’s info and media. See our developer guide on how to obtain threads_business_basic permission and go through required App review.
Once you obtain threads_business_basic permission, partners will be able to fetch the Threads user ID of Instagram-connected Threads user accounts with requirements:
instagram_basic
threads_business_basic
pages_read_engagement
If the app user was granted a role via the Business Manager on the Page connected to your app user's Instagram professional account, your app will also need one of:
ads_management
ads_read
Threads feed (stream) is a new placement available within the “Feeds” placement grouping. Standalone Threads feed campaigns are not supported at this time. At minimum, Instagram feed must also be selected when selecting Threads feed.
Creating ad objects for Threads leverages the flow required for Facebook and Instagram ads. To start, create an Ad Campaign and specify your objective. Available objectives for ads in Threads include Reach, Traffic and Website Conversions.
Threads feed supports single image ads with aspect ratios from 16:9 to 9:16. Tall ratios (>1:1) will be masked to 1:1 (center cropping). Placement Asset Customization (PAC) is not supported at this time. See here for more ad creative specifications.
To get started building ads in Threads, see our developer guide for detailed requirements to add Threads feed to your placements.
For stats on your Threads ads, use the Insights API from ad account to ads. If you are running a campaign on Instagram and Facebook or Threads, add breakdowns=publisher_platform, platform_position
to see the stats of Facebook, Instagram and Threads placements separately. See more reporting details here.
At this time, third-party comment moderation is not supported for ads in Threads. App users can reply to or hide individual replies to their ads in Threads feed by clicking on the Reply notification in their Threads app.
