Updating our Platform Terms and Developer Policies

15 Oktober 2024OlehRoberta Savera

As part of our continuous focus on improving developers’ experience and understanding of our terms and policies, we are pleased to announce new updates to our Platform Terms and Developer Policies. These changes go into effect on February 3, 2025, and are designed to provide additional clarity about existing requirements and to further help developers build trust with their users, mitigate risks and deliver reliable and safe experiences on our Social Technologies Developer Center.

Platform Terms: To help better outline developers’ rights and responsibilities when building products and solutions on our Social Technologies Developer Center:

  • We’re clarifying that developers’ privacy policies must be accessible by Meta’s crawlers and on a non-geo blocked URL.
  • We’re also clarifying that all developers, not only those acting as a Tech Provider on a client’s behalf, must obtain valid user consent to build or augment user profiles.
  • We’re removing duplicative requirements that are already covered by other existing terms, policies or processes, for example the requirement to notify Meta within 24 hours after becoming aware of a privacy or security incident (already covered by the requirement to notify Meta as soon as practicable and to comply with all applicable laws and regulations).
  • We’re adding more clarity on the requirement for Tech Providers to notify their clients of any data subject rights requests that Meta communicates to them.

Developer Policies: To ensure developers continue to build high-quality user experiences and know how to use our Social Technologies Developer Center responsibly:

  • We’ve provided additional policy guidance on prohibited practices, such as hosting, promoting or facilitating the distribution of malicious software or code or managing Apps with inauthentic accounts.
  • We’ve also clarified existing requirements on transparency and their applicability to all ad-buying solutions.
  • We’ve created separate App Development Guidelines to offer additional guidance on quality controls, user experience, content and functional requirements to help developers create a positive user experience.
  • We’ve increased readability by removing outdated or redundant policies, and by clarifying the scope of specific policy sections.

We believe these changes will help developers build successfully by strengthening trust with people who use their apps and growing their businesses with Meta.
