Dev Diaries: Stories from Inspiring Women Developers

By MariaLuisa Polimeni

Across the globe, women in game development are making a difference in the industry every day. To celebrate Women’s History Month, we’ll hear from some of these inspiring women, who have shared their experiences and what motivates them to build the games we love.

In the powerful words of Marian Wright Edelman: “You can't be what you can't see.” It’s no secret that diverse representation in game development helps ensure the needs, cultures and beliefs of diverse players are brought to life on screen. Despite progress toward diverse representation in the industry, women are still underrepresented in technical development roles.

We're proud to partner with several women in gaming, who are sharing their stories about breaking into the industry, relaying formative experiences in their career journey and giving advice for aspiring game developers. We hope that by increasing the visibility of these role models, young women and girls will see themselves represented and feel encouraged to take their passion for games to the next level!

In this series of interviews, we hear from developers across the world, who are pushing boundaries in different technical fields of gaming from creating immersive virtual reality (VR) worlds and crafting best-in-class user experiences to developing compelling narratives. Each story provides a unique perspective on what it means to be a game developer and sheds light on how diverse and often non-linear pathways can lead to a career in games.
