Helping future Vietnamese innovators stay ahead in the job market

August 3, 2020ByJason Lin

Here at Facebook, we believe that no great idea stands alone. That’s why our Developer Circles program has helped build a global community of aspiring and experienced tech innovators, providing them with the tools they need to learn and collaborate. Members can learn about Facebook products, engage in online discussions, and grow together as makers no matter where they are.

Vietnam is home to over 7,000 local Developer Circle members, an up-and-coming startup culture and even more aspiring tech talents who are waiting to be discovered. Developer Circles is here to help equip Vietnam’s future movers and thinkers with the skills needed to take the country’s tech ecosystem global.

The Developer Circles Vietnam Innovation Challenge is an exciting traineeship and competition initiative that is organized by Facebook in conjunction with CoderSchool. It seeks to empower tech students in Vietnam with job readiness skills, mentorship and work placements to help them get a running start in the competitive tech industry.

Following a successful debut in Ho Chi Minh City in 2019, where 357 third and fourth-year university students received hands-on training in React Native, Data Science and Product Management, the Developers Circles Vietnam Innovation Challenge is now setting its sights on the nation’s vibrant capital – Hanoi.

Here, 300 trainees will not only have a chance to sharpen their individual talents as developers, but also collaborate creatively on real-world business challenges set by experts from FPT Software, Viettel Digital Services, Teko Ventures, Tripi, FSI and TnTech in the 10-week program. Developer Circles Vietnam Innovation Challenge in Hanoi officially launched on 23 June 2020, with a virtual live-stream event that reached 1.1 million viewers within the first 24 hours.

An exciting new feature of this year’s program in Hanoi is the #TechbyHer track – a unique product management training that is open to an additional 50 women participants. In the spirit of Facebook’s commitment to diversity and multidisciplinary learning, #TechbyHer also welcomes non-IT graduates with up to two years’ of working experience to apply.

“I joined the Product Management track under the Developer Circles Innovation Challenge in Ho Chi Minh City and was able to learn more about product design and management from experienced experts,” says Le Duy Luat, whose group project on e-wallet payment solutions placed among last year’s top ten finalists. “I walked away with invaluable learnings on how to be a product manager and build an end-to-end product flow that addresses real-life problems.” 80 graduates from the 2019 program went on to land internships and junior roles at the likes of Chotot, FE Credit and Sendo.

In these unprecedented times, it has become more important than ever to protect and nurture the future generation of developers and innovators. “Working alongside Facebook Developer Circles as well as Vietnam’s top tech companies inspires us to continue being a world-class coding school,” says CoderSchool CEO and founder Charles Lee. “At CoderSchool we know the best outcomes can be found at the intersection of education, work and community. We’ve had over a thousand graduates since 2015, and we’re still super excited about helping every single one of them learn new skills that will showcase their passion, talent and dedication.”
