Platform Updates: Requests Testing, Migrations and More

November 11, 2013ByPaul Tarjan

Testing App Requests in Notifications
Games and applications are core to many people’s experience on Facebook, which is why we’re constantly working to improve how people discover, engage and interact with them. As you may have noticed, we’re testing surfacing new requests in the notification channel to drive engagement and discovery. We are measuring the impact of this short-term test to see if it's something that users enjoy, and we’ll continue to iterate on ways for people to find games and applications.

Migration Updates
Whenever we make an intentional breaking change to Platform, we provide a migration to give developers the ability to update and test their applications. You can find all migrations in your application’s advanced settings in the Developer Application.

As of today, the following migrations will be enabled by default for all new applications and will be enabled for all apps on March 10, 2011:

In addition, we are making updates to the following existing migrations:

  • OAuth 2.0 for Canvas” is leaving beta status without any changes. This isn't a forced migration, but it will become the default setting for new applications. If you currently use the fb_sig parameters, you can continue using them for the foreseeable future, but you won't get new features nor will the documentation indicate how to use fb_sig. If you can, we recommend moving to signed_request.
  • “Canvas Session Parameter” has been superseded by "OAuth 2.0 for Canvas". That means it will remain default off and will be removed on March 10, 2011, when all apps will get the disabled state. If you enabled this, please move to "OAuth 2.0 for Canvas".

Open Graph Tags for Video and Audio
We now support the ability to specify a video or audio file associated with an Open Graph object. If you choose to include the new og:video and og:audio tags, thie content you specify will appear in the News Feed when someone likes and comments on your Open Graph page.
