Connect Unity gamers across platforms with Facebook’s new SDK

Facebook is committed to helping game developers build gaming experiences that seamlessly connect players across web and mobile platforms. More than 260 million people are playing games on Facebook each month - a number that continues to rise. One of the fastest growing categories of games on Facebook are the highly sophisticated, 3D games often labeled as core and mid-core. To support game developers building core games, we've teamed up with one of the leading game engines, Unity, to give Unity developers easy access to Facebook's social and identity features.

Announcing a cross-platform SDK for Unity games

Today, at Unity's developer conference, Unite, in Vancouver, BC, we launched a new cross-platform SDK that makes it faster and easier to integrate your Unity game with Facebook. Whether you're building on iOS, Android, web, or all three, the SDK lets you continue to write in C# and provide social game experiences to all your players, regardless of the platform they play on.

Already, Cmune’s UberStrike, Madfinger’s Shadowgun:Deadzone, and Nival’s King's Bounty: Legions have integrated the SDK with their games.

Bring mobile games to Facebook's web audience with one click

The number of active Facebook users with Unity installed more than tripled in the first half of 2013, and today more than 90 million monthly active users have Unity installed on the web. Facebook has a relevant and engaged audience of gamers that mobile developers can reach by publishing their games on Facebook, and the SDK makes bringing a mobile game to web as simple as writing one line of code. By filling out a few fields in the developer app and giving us the URL of your game object, you can bring your mobile game to a whole new audience of avid gamers on Facebook. Madfinger used the SDK to bring their mobile game Shadowgun:Deadzone to Facebook.com, opening up a new growth platform for the game with minimal effort.

Provide a more immersive web gaming experience

As more graphics-rich web games come to Facebook.com, players want to stay immersed in the game experience while connecting with friends, and the SDK helps you do that. We've built native Unity dialogs for inviting friends, requests, and sharing, so people can stay in full-screen mode when they interact with social features, creating a richer, smoother web game experience for players.

We're also helping more people find and play Unity games on Facebook by driving discovery of the Unity player with a custom install flow for the Unity plug-in.

Parse plugin coming to Unity

At the Unite conference, Parse also announced plans to release a Parse Plugin for Unity that will extend the Parse backend to web and mobile Unity developers. With the plugin, developers can store data, authenticate users, and easily implement advanced backend features such as saving high score data, saving game states for continuous play, and dynamically enabling and disabling a/b testing. The plugin will become available to developers in the coming weeks.
