Platform Updates: Operation Developer Love

February 20, 2013ByNoorin Ladhani

Realtime Updates extended for Pages

We've extended Realtime Updates for the Graph API to include posts for Pages. Now instead of having to poll a Page repeatedly to see if there have been any comments or posts, you can set up an app to be notified every time there is a change. You can read more in the documentation for Pages.

Update to Platform policies

We're making a minor update to the branding section of our Platform policies. Starting today, we require that all app descriptions, display names and icons adhere to our Advertising Guidelines. This update is designed to clarify our requirements for businesses that use both Facebook Ads and Platform.

Search insights now available

You can now get insights on how often people find you through the search bar on Facebook.com. Canvas developers now have a Search Results tab in App Insights, located under Other Features, that shows the number of organic and paid clicks from January 21, 2013. Clicks include the number of people who clicked on your app from the search bar, whether or not the user has Graph Search. Clicks from mobile and the search results page are not currently included.

For more information on how to promote your app through search, you can learn more about Sponsored Results here. You can create a sponsored result though the App Dashboard, Power Editor, and the API.

March 2013 Breaking Changes

The following changes can be enabled/disabled using the "March 2013 Breaking Changes" migration until March 6th when they will go into effect permanently for everyone:

No more accessing mailbox FQL tables without a user session
It will not longer be possible to access the message, thread, or mailbox_folder FQL tables without a user session.

Removing apps from /me/accounts/ and page_admin FQL table
We will no longer show apps under /me/accounts/ in the Graph API or in the page_admin FQL table. You can access the list of apps a user is a developer on by hitting /me/applications/developer/ or using the app_role FQL table.

Removing redirect to docs when hitting graph.facebook.com
We will no longer return a redirect to the Graph API docs when hitting the URL http(s)://graph.facebook.com with no path.
