Scale with Audience Network

June 11, 2015ByChristine Lu

The Audience Network enables you to reach more people, more often and in more places. You can leverage the same Facebook advertising tools across creative, targeting, optimization, and measurement to deliver relevant messages to your consumers when they visit other mobile apps.

Currently the Audience Network is enabled for app ads and link ads. Ads in the Audience Network use the same images as ads on Facebook and are displayed like the below:

Publishers

Designed as an extension of Facebook, the Audience Network ensures ads are delivered in brand-safe and high quality publishers. Facebook ensures the quality of its publisher network with its comprehensive approval process led by the Facebook Developer Operations team, which applies human review on every accepted publisher.

Implementation Guidelines

The recommendaton for partner interfaces is to surface the Audience Network as a placement. Allow for Mobile, Desktop, and Right Column options with Audience Network implicitly included in Mobile.

You can then offer an Audience Network opt-out within a Mobile expansion. Note that you cannot run ads only on Audience Network, so the "Mobile News Feed" option below is shown as un-editable.

You should offer Audience Network placement for Website Clicks, Website Conversions, and App Ad objective campaigns.

In the API, use the ad set's targeting to define the ad's placement. Below are examples of what page_types to specify:

Desktop:

-F "targeting= {'page_types': ['desktopfeed'], ...}" \

Mobile:

-F "targeting= {'page_types': ['mobile'], ...}" \

Mobile feed only:

-F "targeting= {'page_types': ['mobilefeed'], ...}" \

Right column:

-F "targeting= {'page_types': ['rightcolumn'], ...}" \

Audience Network Results

Clients who have used Audience Network have seen increased total campaign reach.

“Facebook has been one of our pre-eminent channels for brand building, awareness and online promotion of our books. The Audience Network has been able to extend this success and reach potential new readers outside of Facebook’s News Feed. We’ve found the Audience Network to be a very effective marketing tool and we’ve used the platform for some of our bestselling authors, including Susan Elizabeth Phillips and James Rollins, just to name a few.”

—Jennifer Hart, SVP, Associate Publisher and Group Marketing Director of William Morrow, an imprint of HarperCollins.
